Words for Sarah

On the night of your test
I was far from at my best
Yet I hope I made you smile
It was a karaoke bar
And I was far from a star
But I sang to you in my style

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

On waking to meet the day
In that bed I wanted to stay
Only too many things went nusaid
I was waiting for the night
Hoping you would be once more in sight
But you hit the road instead

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Some years later here I stand
With this guitar in a country band
And a woman in my thoughts
Those words are just as true today
But I can’t think of a better way to say
To that woman I sought

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

I knew Sarah for a very short time, but she was one of the most free-spirited people I have known, I met her in Mexico in 2013 on one of a number of scuba diving courses, she had just completed the divemaster course and this was the day of the snorkel test a rite of passage to celebrate the accomplishment. I had never really sung in public even Karaoke before, but this time just felt right, I sang as may be evident Always On My Mind, I dare say my rendition far from did credit to those of Elvis and Willie Nelson, but the words I have written here I dare say do not do justice to the lady either, all I hope for really is this entertains (even if laughing at me) or brings a smile to someone and maybe if ever this gets to be read by her that she understands the positive impact she has had on those she has met and the memories that she has been a part of.
